Summary

Grinstead 122 at the University of Central Missouri is a computer lab that also serves as an active learning engagement classroom, primarily used by the faculty in the Engineering Technology program in the School of Technology at the University of Central Missouri. This computer lab used to be two separate learning spaces. One side was a Photography lab, and the other side was a general classroom. The picture below shows a peek of what the computer lab looks as seen from the hallway. It features a computer with one monitor for each student and “theater-style” seating so that those seated in the back two rows are able to have a good view of the instructor and the front of the classroom.

The picture below shows the computer lab as it was getting set up. You can also see the big touchscreen at the front and a side monitor that can be used to mirror what’s showing in the touchscreen. The computer lab is also equipped with technology that allows students to connect their devices to any of the big monitors on the wall. This allows students to seamlessly cast their screens without having to log in or leave their seats. One use case for this is for students to share a resource such as an online article or video during class discussions. Students can also huddle in groups using the monitor as a way to collaborate and share.
