One of the projects I assisted with in upgrading for the College of Health, Science, and Technology at the University of Central Missouri was W.C. Morris (WCM) 422. The School of Natural Sciences uses this as a classroom for its Chemistry courses.

The classroom used to be in the traditional format with the rows of desks facing the instructor at the front.

The front of the classroom used to have the instructor workstation, a projector screen, a stage, and a demo bench on the stage. All of these were removed to make room for the new tables, chairs, display monitors, and whiteboards. After the renovation, we moved all the existing furniture out to make room for the new furniture.

Next, the furniture and the technology was added. This room features an interactive touchscreen and four additional displays throughout the space to accommodate breakout sessions and to make it easier for everyone to have a good view regardless of where they sit. All display screens also have Air Medias for sharing screens from various devices such as smartphones, tablets, and laptops. In front of the interactive display is a demo bench. There is a camera for capturing demonstrations and lectures and also to allow for distance learning capabilities. The instructor can use a lavalier microphone to capture audio, and students pass around a catchbox as their microphone. There are several in-ceiling speakers so that everybody in the room is able to hear audio clearly. As for the furniture, the chairs and tables can be easily rearranged to allow for any configuration, whether it’s for active learning or for a more traditional layout for taking exams. Lastly, all the technology is controlled by a central touchscreen control panel.
